Tulum sits about 120 km south of Cancun Airport along federal highway 307. The drive takes between 1 h 35 min and 2 h 15 min depending on the hour: traffic builds around Playa del Carmen and Puerto Aventuras, and Tulum town itself slows down at sunrise and sunset.

It is the most requested long route in the Riviera Maya, and the one where a private transfer differs most from the alternatives: the bus drops you in Tulum town, not in the beach hotel zone, which is another 10 to 20 minutes away along a single-lane road.

What to know about this destination

  • If your hotel is in the beach zone (the Tulum–Boca Paila road), give us the exact name: many entrances have no visible street number and GPS places them wrong.

How long is the drive from Cancun Airport to Tulum?

Between 1 h 35 min and 2 h 15 min. Highway 307 is dual carriageway for most of the way, and Playa del Carmen traffic is the biggest variable. Add 10 to 20 minutes if your hotel is in the Tulum beach zone.

Will the driver wait if my flight is delayed?
